HMS Euralus (Dido Class) Help!
« on: April 03, 2010, 10:49:25 am »

I now have my hull and I am planning the first part or the build, cleaning up the hull marking out the holes for the propshafts and instantly have a lack of information!

Prop diameter life size or other wise?

I have the vertical position of the Propshafts but not the horizontal?

Can anyone Help.

Tom.

I'll look through my books for you as I don't know off hand, but George Sitek makes a running gear set for HMS Dido in 1/128 scale for the Fleetscale hull if that helps.

On the builders  plans the incline of the prop shafts appears to be 3 degrees from horizontal and at 1/96 scale the props are 30mm dia

Sorry John, thanks for the info but when I said horizontal I meant the position of the shafts distance from the centre line outboard and from each other. I should have been more clear with my question I can see where you would think to give the angle.

I'm not having much luck finding the propeller spacing Tom. The only thing I have found is that the NMM has a set of 1/96th scale plans for HMS Naiad "as fitted" in 1943, if this has sections as one of the sheets it should give you the spacing. Also Taubman plans (www.taubmansonline.com) have a 1/192nd scale set of plans for HMS Black Prince, although she's from the second batch of the Dido class it may have useful information so it might be worth checking out. I'm checking out some other sources as well, so I'll get back to you if I find out anything else.
