esc advice needed....
« on: April 04, 2010, 04:49:11 pm »

I need an esc to handle two MFA/Como 280 motors(both wired together)driving 30mm 3 blade props in the Enterprise. Battery pack is a five cell 3700a/h pack giving 6volts.
Radio is a GiantCod 2.4ghz.

Any advice gratefully received....

Go up to six cells.
Run a bec esc that you can limit the power.

A ripmax sea rover esc has a 2 pin bump polarised bec plug from the main battery as well as the three pin plug with no central red.
It works with 5-6 cells powering a bec receiver but the 2.4 giantcod rx will be ok with that.

You can rig up the same arrangement with any bec escKeeping the 5 cell pack with bec esc.
Just remove the centre red servo wire and take the the receiver and rudder servo power direct from the 5 cell pack.Only the esc internals run from its own bec which means it is reliable until the pack is flat.

Can't go to six cells, there's no room left...

Mtroniks Marine MIRROR! - http://www.mtroniks.net/details1.asp/ProductID/592/sid/2/Viper-marine-mirror.htm

or  any other on this page - http://www.mtroniks.net/products.asp/SubCatID/2/brushed-marine-speed-controllers.htm

Thanks for that, I'll duly investigate...

Viper: Marine20

Thanks Dicky...I'll investigate that one as well.

Quite true Dicky, I had to add one more  to give the motors a bit more oomph, she was a bit slow at flank speed.

Not if you are using 6 volts:

Speed Control
Operating Voltage: 7.2v-9.6v
Maximum Pulse Current: Forward
Maximum Continuous Current: Forward
Int. Resistance Ohms: 0.008x2
Weight: 50g
Forward and Reverse
Neutral & Full Power Adjustment
Battery Elimination Circuitry
Built-In Pulse Checker

And I certainly do not believe the current rating, if nothing else it would burn out the supplied cables and where would you get a battery able to supply such power!!!!

You already have a suitable ESC. If you're using a Hitec Rx that has BEC fitted internally (that $%^& BEC stuff again...) then P79 will be fine, as the voltage put out by the receiver should be regulated @ 5v even though you may have 7v+ going into it from the 5-cell pack when it's fully charged. If you're going to use the 2.4 Gigglehurts Rx and run it from the 5-cell pack then just plug a P99 in-line regulator between the Rx and the P79. Gotta be cheaper than buying a new 'un, innit?

Read it slowly..............and twice!

Read it three times boss...took your gospel as word, and whipped the P79 out of the Dragonfish and installed it in Enterprise.

I'm not into this BEC stuff, installed a separate battery pack for the radio...even cheaper, 'ennit chav? Oh, and it's the GiganticFish radio n' all.

With a bit of luck, a bottle of stout and a following wind, Enterprise will be on the lake for proper testing one day this week.

Many thanks everybody for all the advice...and many thanks to His Masterfullness for the gospel. (the gospel according to FLJ...)
