Prop shafts for the Italeri Schnellboot
« on: April 14, 2010, 04:17:05 pm »

I am doing the conversion to R/C on this plastic kit.
I have followed the shaft line through the hull, and my shafts sit right on the bottom of the hull, thats about 25 - 30mm below the C/L of the motor.
Is there in existence a 'thingy' that will take the motor drive, and drop it 25 - 30mm via a couple of gears or a belt ? or do I get some much longer shafts and run them another 100 - 150mm further down the hull.

Hi Colin
I don't know of any smaller geared motors suitable for the Schnellboot but SHG do a set of 2mm shafts, couplings and props for the conversion. These were used by Dave Abbot in his recent conversion in model mag - the name of which escapes me.

Nice people to deal with, perhaps give them a call.

Hope this helps

Colin,

The Dave Abbott article in Model Boats last year didn't make clear that the SHG shafts are not at the same angle as in the full size version but at a steeper slope so that the motors can be kept well aft and the batteries also.  SHG will do longer versions if you ask them.

Thanks - will go for the longer shafts.
I can see in the (Model Boats) photograph that there has been considerable mods to shafts.
