Still more tinkering - Recumbent Long Wheel Based Bike
« on: April 16, 2010, 11:58:39 am »

This is my Recumbent Long Wheel Based Bike.

It is based in a single main tune body with a smaller top tube creating a triangle frame with the back fork frame on which the seat rests.

It is a Greggy-original design so royalties for copies will be expected! :-)) O0 {-)

It is not quite there yet as it is a little unstable at speed due I think to the front fork angle being slightly incorrect

More images will be forth comming if there is enough interest :-))

 O0 {-) {-) {-)

The project has taken a back seat and has languished unloved in my back yard for about two years, the poor old girl has not got to the paint stage yet as she is an experimental job O0

She's still sound and will clean up good :-))

I might take a look at it again this summer

Hi Bikemec,

Yeah I discovered their website :-))

Your bike looks cool :-)) O0

I have a Morris Minor wheel that I'm going to use for a chopper back wheel.

For brakes to be effective you need a short brake cable coupled to a rod system because long brake cable stretch too much making brake pressure at the calipers weak, or you could splash out and go hydraulic of course! O0

Plan was to put a cable disk brake on the rear using a tandem cable,

or a set of V brakes set over the back wheel but this caused it's own problems and the tire was only 4 1/2 inches across

But I gave it away when I moved house

these machines look great , i did think about buying one of those three wheeled trike recumbent's a few years ag when they were about £600 all in but now they are in the region of £2,500 +.
Two things put me off , 1 i would have to travel to Portsmouth to try one (i live in Goole) ,2 i am not the lightest of people(they have a weight resriction).
So if i still want one i have to save up,move house and lose weight , and i still might not like riding one :} .

Hello PortsideII

I live in Brid

Atomic Zombie do this trike as plans at;

 http://www.atomiczombie.com/

Youtube video here;

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QBh4TnUYnwo&list=PL896B7127224DE512&index=24&playnext=2

There is a lively and helpful section on their forum of folks building this trike and all are willing to help newbie builders.

The frame is build from 50mm x 50mm sqaure tubular steel which can be ordered in thicker wall thicknesses for the beefier rider :0)

I have the plans and I'm collecting componenets, when the better weather returns (I'm an out door tinkerer) in the spring, construction will start in earnest.

My friend built this EV recumbent bike.
It has an aircraft style joystick steering system and also front/rear variable steering.
Enjoy!

There are some realy good ideas on the site , makes me think about building one for myself .
I do like the idea of making your own axle's , beats having a set of forks on each wheel .
now wheres my hacksaw  :-)) .

Have been a fan of the atomic zombie site for ages. Some cool stuff on there! I prefer building powered 'toys' though,as I cant be doing with all that pedalling!
 Love the patina greggy!
