This is my new project and I thought I'd share it with you! She is 1.75m long at 1/32 scale. All made up of blue foam covered with glass and epoxy. I'm working on the details write now and when is finished it's going to be used as the master to pull the molds from. Still a lot of work to be done but I enjoy every minute of it!

What type of tool do you use to make those engravings in the resin?

I use OLFA's scriber, a carbite scriber, needle file and small diameter drill bits for the rivets. Here is a photo.

Duncan I'll post some photos of the reall thing later on

Stunning work Yannis ! Something different is always interesting to us sub nuts on a global scale
I know  a few of us would be keen to own such a model
How about starting a build thread so we can follow your progress

Thanks Donuts, I'll be posting as the work proceeds but it's going to be a little slow due to the luck of time.

Yannis--  I was just out running my 1/32nd type 202 in the pond and thought, "I haven't been on MBM in a long time" so I log in and scan through this forum and see what I've been missing.  What a fantastic build.  Being a fellow Greek I'm always on the lookout for something Hellenic and wow does this fit the bill.  Excellent work.  1.75m is a nice working size and looks great on the water.  Good luck.

My family comes from Crete and Cephalonia but have been in the US since WWI then WWII. A great project you have there. I've had great difficulty searching for information on post-war Hellenic submarines.   This is going to be a spectacular model when completed.

Hallo to you all!
I did some work on the type 209! I started scribing the panels on the base of the coning tower and did the torpedo doors. I'm also trying to simulate the battered panel  infront of the sonar dome! Tricky job and I hope it works!

How did you achieve this please?

Thank you very much Voyager!
For the dents I used a drill bit very carefully and then I smoothed them down by brushing on a two pack filler. It takes a couple or three coats.

I decided to have a brake from scribing and detailing and the last couple of days I made the odd shaped prop. It's not finished yet as it needs soldering and polishing. I hope it works OK in the water too!

Thanks for the quick reply!

I wouldn't mind giving that a go on one of my next projects. I wonder if I might get a similar effect If I were to use an engraving tool on my Mini-Craft drill instead of a drill bit?

Also, your set of scribers, do you use some sort of brass templates to obtain the right curves?

on the real sub, what is the bow made of that it dents this way?  I can see from the photos of the real sub that your attempt is close to what happens on to the real sub.

Your idea with the engraving tool is really good! As for the templates I make my own out of card or fiber glass sheet.

I covered the hub with a piece of masking tape wich was previously marked with the positions and angle of the blades. Then I used a hacksaw very carefully to make the grooves.

It's made of steel and I think it's being "hummered" while hot to get the curvy shape! That's why you get this effect!

Hallo everyone!
Just a small update(it's too hot to work down here). I made the basses of the dive planes and top rudder and also I corrected the lower rudder. Did some dry fitting to get an idea how she looks!

Yannis you are doing a brilliant job on this submarine but if its too hot to work out there
you should get yourself on the a sailing boat and go across to Sagiada (stopping for a swim on the way)
Have a nice meal of grilled prawns at Aliki's Taverna and sail back to Gouvia - was my favourite day trip
when we kept the boat out there - a beautiful place to live.

That's a brilliant idea Geoff!!! When I get some free time I'll do it! You probably know my brother Spyros? He's the guy who does the fiber glass repairs in Gouvia Marina!
