Ah, I see!!  No, not quite clever...VERY clever.  Thats what today would be called "thinking outside the box"!

Thanks for the info

Yannis,

Really beautiful work.

A question though - I'm having difficulty understanding your control arm mechanism for the bow planes. I'm working on a Type 202 with similar asymmetrical bow planes so I need a system like yours if not exactly the same. Would it be possible to show a few more pictures of the bow planes in various positions so I can study the relative position of the control arms? Right now, it looks to me that a motion of the control arm running towards the pressure hull will cause both planes to go either in or out at the same time and I know that's not correct. One plane should move in as the other moves out (I think).

Thanks for your time,

Dan

David the unbuiltnautilus answer is spot on, I hope it covers your question! Thanks for the nice comment!

Dan, if you watch the video carefully I think you'll find your answer! The secret is the 45 degrees dead  angle that is being produced as the pivot turns! Very simple, very effective and very clever! If you like I'll be more than happy to send you the plans! Thanks for the nice comment!

Hi everyone!
Solved the problem with stability and started triming the beast! Also tested all the systems and they work as they should! By the looks of it I'm going to need about another six pounds of lead ballast to bring her on the correct water line! See how it goes! More to come!

Yannis,

Thanks. I missed seeing the link to the video. The video shows the mechanism very well - I understand.

Yannis, thats a superb model, and superb modelling!

Couple of questions: in the real one do the periscope suite all go up and down together as per your model or have you taken liberties?  Also, why are the bow planes asymmetric?  Do they counteract torque I wonder?

David

Sorry David, I forgot to answer this part of your question! In the real one the periscopes go up and down in two different groups but that was a bit to much for me so I took liberties! Maybe later on I'll do it properly!

Also managed to add some details and next thing is to sand the whole boat with fine grade sandpaper(wet) and prepare it for the final coat of paint! More to come!
Regards from rainy and depressing Corfu!

Hi Yannis - she looks really good in the water and so close to being finished. You will have to start thinking/planning
your next build

Finished with the scopes and their mechanism at last! I didn't use the hydraulic mechanism I made earlier because it wouldn't fit after making the new WTC ( I should of known better >:-o) I made a new one with an electric motor and jackscrew and works fine! Here is some pictures and  videos!

Yannis that looks very efficient - but not being any type of engineer i wondered how you kept the
electrics dry.

Geoff as you can see the motor is in its own water tight box and the end switches are of the waterproof type!  The only thing I did it was to waterproof the terminals with silicone sealant! Did a test in the bath tub and everything works fine so far! Hope it stays that way!!!
