Z-drives
« on: June 01, 2010, 08:36:15 pm »

Hi all. I was at the Harrogate Engineering show at the beginning of May and I was looking at a model of a T-Class anchor handling tug the Tai Koo. I liked the look of this model and decided I would like to build one. The model was scratch built apart from the hull. The commercial hull that was used was the Eldergarth that had been purchased from MMM and altered quite considerably. The hull wasn’t exact for the Tai Koo but it looked ok (A modeller’s licence). The only other thing that I found was the model had been fitted with steer able Kort nozzles instead of Z-drives. I started looking at commercial z-drives and getting a bit of info and prices on these units. The only ones that I could find were the Graupner Schottel drives, and I wasn’t imprested with these plastic units at nearly £70 and £90 each. So after contacting a member on this forum that had already built his own z-drives I decided to try and build my own. Here are the photos of my z-drives that I have just finished today, I hope you like them, I have obtained a hull and all I have to do now is build the model to go with the z- drives. {-) {-) {-)

Very nice,...

Where did you get the bevel gears, and what diameter are they?

Thanks for the comments  all.

Hi Umi the bevel gears are from Davall. The ones I used were MB08-16-S

and the tug (under construction) the drives are installed in..

Hi toesupwa

I have not started the headgear yet. I have sent ro88o  a link to your build. I was trying to find the link you had posted showing another zdrive build but I was unable to find the link. The link had lots of photos and three PDF files for download.

Thanks again for your help.

Would that be Milan's build on the Monako site?..
