My Latest Tug
« on: June 06, 2010, 07:21:47 pm »

Hi there, thought I'd post some pics of my latest tug. She's a MM Eldergarth underneath but fancied a more modern tug so scratch built a new super structure to fit, 2 for the price of 1 eh!?! Some things changed on the deck too. Still some work to do and fittings to add but nearly there! Dave aka Number6 :-)) :-)) PS: renamed after my daft Yorkshire Terrier Jojo if anybody wondering! O0

A very nice modernization for the hull.

However,... does Jojo ride the barges?  8)

Maybe you put the barge down on the floor of the shop, and put his
feeding dish on it... Then place him on the barge... once he gets used
to it, he might take to standing on it once it's in the water...  ok2

The hulls a Mobile Marine Eldergarth, superstructure is all freelance-no plans. Just made it out of cardboard 1st to get it looking right then built mostly out of 3mm plywood had lying around. Cabin was made out of 2mm styrene as this was easier to work with than the ply-cutting out windows etc. Mast, funnels etc made out of scrap brass tube and plastic. Only thing spent anything on really were the brass stanchions by Aeronaut and a few deck fittings from Mobile Marine, all rest made from scratch. Few more bits to add, radar, few more lights, some deck clutter, figures, but am very pleased with how she's turned out. Thanks for the comments, much appreciated, Dave, aka Number6 :-)) :-)) :-))

I don`t have that much skill to build something without plans. I found some plans, but they don`t show ribs. :(( Take a look..

The section in the middle of the line drawings is the plan for the ribs, as you call them. Have a look on the forum there is a wealth of information on how to transfer that section to wood.

You just have to break down the whole thing into smaller parts and take it step by step. I must've made half a dozen different structures out of card before I was happy with the look of her,we had loads of cereal etc in the cupboards with no boxes for a few weeks and the amount of ply I've scrapped before would keep a log burner going for ages. {:-{ Plenty of info on the forum and people here are happy to help. :-)) :-))
