Riva compass disc, etc.
« on: June 21, 2010, 06:28:27 pm »

Hi, I have just found a large artwork in black and white for a Riva compass disc, which I photoed down to 1/12th scale when I made my models.
I realise that the Vietnamese do the models for tuppence ha'p'nny these days but they ain't great on the instrumentation, so if anyone thinks it useful, I'll put it up on here.

Good grief, has the cheap and nasty Chinese stuff spoiled it that much much?

Oh well, back in the folder, no skin off my nose.

Thanks for the support, Arrow.
Normally, you'd be right, but in the case of the Riva disc, It's on my workbench.

If I put it on photobucket, would that be OK?  Or is there a facility on here for such things?

It's not a photo, it's a piece of artwork which you can photocopy down to the right size.
I also found some gauges from my model of Miss Britain III which I'll put on at the same time.

I was a bit put off by the lack of interest, that's all.  I'll try to get them on today.
I just wish there was more interest in the old sports boats.  I have enough stuff to do some drawings of them over the winter but without more interest, it would hardly be worth my time.
A pity.
I could do Miss Britain III, a slipper launch, an Albatross Sports, a Riva Aquarama Special, a Whippet, Darby One design, Singer Cadet and possibly a Miss England.

Hi Roy, so that would be 1/8th scale then?

Nice.

I have a LOT of photos and works drawings.
Mine was 1/12th scale, my favourite.
The Miss America X was 1/8th.  5ft-3" long!

I'll start scanning soon.

Nice to see some activity in the sports boat boat world, guys.

But what's a Riviera?  is it one of these new Riva lookalikes?
Neat switches and gauges, Willy.

triumphjon, have you heard of the Fairey Cinderella?  Discovered one on the CMBA forum yesterday.
Neat little speedboat.

Keep it coming guys.

For example, this is a Chris Craft Riviera

Hi Willy, did you use plans?
Because your deck planking is very different from the pictures.
Just wondering.

Willy, looks good.
I used steamed Pear veneer for my "woodies".  Looks like mahogany in scale with just a little staining of the sanding sealer before varnish.
