Greetings Voyager.
Is not Lady Sharron one of Ron Deans kits? I think that for a 300 mm kit Ron does a ready made display case. You might like to look on his web site and check it out. If its not listed give him a call because I know he has got them. If you want a case to carry your boat around in then I think a thick bottom of pine about 15mm thick and back and sides and top made of 6mm MDF glued and pinned together with a clear plastic front which either folds down or slides upward would do very well. Some screw hooks into the base would enable you to hold down the model on it's cradle using ex post office rubber bands of course. Others will no doubt also advise you via this site.
I hope I have been of service.
Regards.
Peter.

is it for carrying or display ? I built this transport case out of a cheap helli case, its very light and you can cut them down to the size you want with a little care.if you have to go out and buy wood and fittings (hindges locks handels etc) plus paint there wont be that much of a difference and these are so light and strong and come filled with foam, I think they look neat as well.

Ok thanks to you both. It's only a very small 300mm size boat. Transportation and storage for me and I would like it to be made out of wood if possible?

Very nice case ixion.  I'll have to refer to this if I build a case.
Do you have any drain or ventilation holes in the case?  or do you just make sure it's completely dry before putting it in there?

Hi Voyager.
I built a storage and transporting case for my Perkasa (which is 37" long and apptrox 18" high?) from 1" x3/8" battening and 1/8" ply. Together with a flat handle, 2 half hinges and 2 snap catches, good glue, mini nailer/stapler and a few coats of varnish. Making the top removable, allows the top to become the base and stand for lakeside. I hope the pics are self explanetary (?)

Very much so!

You did a top job on both the model and the case. I like your idea of just varnishing over the wood instead painting it, looks alot nicer.
I managed to pick up a cast metal handle for less than a £1 at Wilkinson, also bought two brass hinges. Next job is to work out a latch of some description and then on to measuring out how big it needs to be.

Thank you Voyager for your kind comments.
If you can't find half hinges, make from exsisting by tapping out pin, (maybe have to file off end peening)
Cut away section of hinge on one half only, (just enough to allow pin to slide in)
See sketch below.

Reassemble hinge. (remember you'll need 2)
Remember to use modified part of hinge to lid part and face mod. outward. :-))
That way you will easily be able to open lid and remove from bottom, to act as stand.
Took longer to write about than it took to do! {-)

And make sure there is a Positive lockdown on the "Snap" catches. DAMHIK

I totally agree with Circlip!!
Toggle catches are what you're after!! They lock "overcentre"
You DO NOT need the bottom section releasing from the top when you're carrying the model.   :((  :((   >:-o

You could also modify the design by using 4 catches therby eliminating the hinges.  O0
