Does any one have any experience with a PaddleWheel smoke unit?

No.
But if its any help the smoke unit from Hunter Systems is excellent,  but must run off 12 volts and is better with a small computer fan behind it, really makes 'loads a smoke'

Thankyou for your advice Richard I have been looking at Hunter Systems. I must admit, I do like the PaddleWheel system as it comes with its own blower, only problem is, I have no history about it.  :-)

Mark's Model Bits Foggy...

Uses only water so no having to buy tons of smoke oil...

I will be running a smoke unit up through a brass funnel connected to a Cheddar Proteus steam engine; question is - will the hot exhaust from the Proteus 'dry out' the steam from the 'smoker' and negate its affect?

May I ask why you're running a smoke generator in a steam powered boat?  %)

If it's gas or meths fired you won't get any visible smoke, just heat vapour.

Hi Guys,
Do you think it's a waste of time using any type of smoker with a steam engine? This is my first build so I'm ignorant about this subject. Any advice would be welcome. I spoke to Mark at marksmodelbits and he said steam would not work; that's why I thought of a oil/smoke unit. The steam engine exhaust emits only hot gasses no smoke.  %)

I have just fitted a small "foggy" unit with variable spped fan and am most pleased with the results. Bill

if you try to use a water vapour unit through a small pipe it wont work so unless you have room for the full size plastic pipe and the Proteus funnel pipe no go I am afraid i did see a life boat with a oil burner type that had it piped down a thin tube and it came out OK, just sail on cold days ,it then looks Smokey..
