Just learned of the passing away of Phil Smith on the 23rd. Thought one of the boaties may have picked this up. One of three guys who picked up the nettle of designs for land sea and air. Will miss you greatly Phil and condolences to his family. Hope someone will keep his archives available for future generations to build from.
Regards Ian
Other two, Vic Smeed and Pete Holland.

Sorry to hear that. Never met Phil but built a lot of Veron kits in my early days of modeling.
My three favorites were the F/F Cardinal, C/L F.W.190 and the RTTL. Also built, and crashed, quite a few combat models.

Sorry to hear of Phil's passing away. He will be remembered for the Veron kits which were mainly aircraft. The most popular Veron boat must be the Police Launch, one of these I built from Phil's plans a few years ago (must look for the photo's which have already been posted).
Phil originated from the south of Manchester and moved to Bournemouth, to quote Phil "the posher part of the country".

A gentleman passes. As had been said, one of the greats of English modeling.
I never meet Phil, but we did correspond on a few occasions over the past 5 years.
His rubber powered "Veron" Sopwith Triplane was my introduction to modeling at age seven.
A copy of this plan hangs on the wall in my study.
Built many of his designs through the years.
He will be missed, may he rest in peace.
My humble thoughts to his wife and family

One of my boyhood heroes. I must have built dozens of his designs and he was probably one of the main reasons why I went into model designing myself. Try as I may I could never manage to cram as much detail into a plan as Phil could, and he didn't have AutoCAD etc. Met him just the once when I worked at True Line - a real gent and a true enthusiast.
A light has gone out.
