Done the the best part of the Y boat. Still got the motor to short out. I'm hoping to get a outboard unit for it. It has a 3-4.5volt motor in it. I'm going to try and convert it to a tiny brushless set up Andy has for sale. Should here about the outboard Thursday.

Blimey Bill you're working hard on this project, coming along really well (and fast). I had better get down my workshop as I have 4 MBD hulls to build before Mayhem next year.
Keep up the good work   :-)) :-))

Hi one & all.
Been slogging away at it. I got the Y boat to run yesterday & I hope Andy will bring his camera down on Sunday to take some pics to put on here.
I am hoping to get the long awaited gearbox in the morning then i can set about getting the ruining gear shorted.  I will try and post a bit more on Sunday.

I was hoping to post an update last weekend about my build. Alas the promised gearbox was needing some more work to it when i got round to my mate who has built it. Never mind whats one more week in the bigger picture?? However it is looking good for this weekend.
Had the Y boat out on the water today and it runs well if a tad fast but thats what the left stick is there for. It looks good on the water and was hoping Andy would be there today to take some pics. maybe Sunday?

Well at long last I have a gearbox for my Arun lifeboat. Many Thanks to Harold for sticking with it and producing the end result for me. I have also fitted the starter motor however i need a new drive dog making by another member of Stevenage model boat club. Still-it dose turn over the engine and i thinkit will be OK. Anyway heres a few more pics of the set up so far.

Wow what a nice piece of kit that all looks.

Just a few questions.....................................

will the gearbox be ok running dry ?
will it need to be enclosed and filled with oil ?
and will the gearbox be noisey not being enclosed ?

i ask all this as im sure like me others need to know about such things  ha ha

I do think it all looks very professional, and a very neat allround package. :-))

a gearbox like that could be put into production, im sure many people on hear would like one, i know i would for sure. O0

Hi Phill
Yes Im going to enclose it and oil fill it.
I don't think Harold wants to make another one, I did ask him but he dose not have the time.
I am going to take it down our club and then strip it down ready to paint all the ally bits up.
Fibre glass work next week all being well. :-))

Here's the link to my youtube clip of the Y boat running. Enjoy. It is a Streamline kit with a 380 motor in it and radio etc. I can push it to fast as the nose goes up and the back swamps out. Still it goes at scale speeds & thats what matters.

instead of painting the ally bits, why not anodise them at home

its real easy to anodise, and looks very good.

i like the look of the alloy bits and would just laquer them and keep the nice fresh look

but each to his own.

Now regarding the gearbox, beware it dont get pinched   ok2 ok2

The dinghy looks very good
Not many people have a fully working rib on their boats.

Very well done

Hi de hi. Been doing a bit more this week. got all the wood work done to support the battery's and other stuff. Then fiba glassed it all in which has taken ages as it was very slow going off. Still i parked it in front of the radiator to night and its now gone solid. I had abit of a set back when it leaked . I found the problem and it is now shorted.
