Show off your retrieval boats
« on: June 25, 2010, 01:56:49 am »

When we are running our nitro boats and we don't have a full size boat for retrieval and the tennis ball on the fishing rod won't reach.
I've seen some pretty innovative designs including motorized lifting baskets  :-)
This is my rig, I got the idea from similar craft at other clubs.
It's my first boat a Traxxas Villain Ex, it has two motors with steerable outdrives that make it pretty maneuverable. The PVC frame is removable and it works great.

Our club had a similar set up, until it was destroyed in our storage container fire - the recovery device, not the boat - thankfully. We now use my pusher tug for recovery work.

Oh Yes it pushes her faster backwards than the main motors (X 2 555) in a 32in Springer hull  ok2 The idea is to blow the smaller boats in  whlle holding her on the main motors & push the bigger ones or both :-))

This is not my boat but it's the one that has a motorized lifting basket

I'd still like to build a Springer, a tug should look like a tug.  :-)

Although the pond at goole is not deep (3ft) and as long as your doat dont sink it will eventually drift to the side we decided a recovery unit was needed .
So i made this for the club from push-fit plumbing and some strapping, it works for us but i would like to have a go at the recovery boat with the lifting net  :-)) nice .

The 2 arms are Fibreglass rods and on the ends are film canisters.

I towed a 14ft rescue dingy when the outboard broke down back to the Lobster Smack jetty on Canvey after an offshore endurance race with this boat!

During a combat sortie, if a ship becomes stricken  and is left on the pond at the
end of the sortie, it is counted as lost at sea. Points are then tallied against the
ship and it's team.  Over the years, we learned to do what is necessary to get
boats back to shore, or even through 24" wide harbor gates, to avoid penalty.
