Your metalwork is superb craftmanship. Is this how you earn(ed) a living?

Very nice steering wheel, it is going to turn when the rudder moves, right?

Hi Members,
I just finished the towing hook. I did not have any photos of the actual towing hook on the TID so I relied on the drawing and went from there. Here are a few photos of the tow hook build. And Barry I did not make a living at this. I am just another marine modeler who has learner from other builders and a forum like this is one of the best learning places. I have learned plenty from my own mistakes. I make my living as a District Fire Chief with the city of Toronto. With almost 36 years under my belt I will be retiring in the end of June.

  G. George

All the more credit to you, George. I learned metalwork as part of my apprenticeship but I would struggle to match you.

Regards,

Hi George,

No, this is not a boring build. Please do not think so and keep on posting your build.
It's a facinating and clever piece of engineering.

GGeorge,

Did you order your propeller from America/overseas or did you find a dealer here in Ontario?

Hi ZZ56,
The prop was purchased through the local hobby store. As most hobby shops in Canada seem to cater mostly to other hobby's such as the fly boys or the cars. They will not likely have the prop you are looking fore. But on the other side of it the hobby store may be abel  to order what you are looking fore. I am in the Lindsay area and Hobby's & Beyond seem to have a good source for boat supplies. The TID prop is a 4in. and they got it in for me. You can probely go on line and locate a source in Canada or the US. Our local club try to use the local hobby shop as much as possible and they have increased the boating supplies. So for what it is worth I advise all modelers to use there local hobby shops even if it happens to be a few pennies more or the down side is there will not be a local hobby shop.

Thanks George.

Next time I am in Toronto or Ottawa i will see if any shops there have propellers.  I always try to support a hobby store somewhere, mostly because ordering things online is so expensive (40 bucks for a Dumas prop that may be too small, eesh!)

Hi GGeorge,

Only just seen this thread, and what a thread it is, you have a lot to be proud of, your engineering is first rate and your soldering is VERY good for an amateur!!!

With skills like this have you considered making a live steam plant to power her?

Especially now you have retired (?), you'll have the time on your hands...

Indeed, the paint job looks very nice.
So what about a steam plant for the tug?

Hello Gerry and congratulations on the maiden voyage of your TID tug. She looks just great! :-)) :-)) :-)) Even better, congratulations on the retirement. Thanks God that you have enough hobbies otherwise you wouldn't know what to do with all the retirement cheques. I hope that you and John will have a great time in England. O0 O0 As a matter of fact I will be in Germany and Italy around the same time.

All the Best

She looks absolutely amazing on the water and continues to be a fascinating build.  Thanks for sharing the pictures with us it's really great to see her getting wet at last and obviously performing well.

 :-)) Great Job! Actually, friend of mine owned a TID Hull since 1986. The Hull is from (Kingston Model)  %)4? inch. I think your "TID" making process can be a demo program for all people who wanted to built this ship. Thanks for your sharing   :} :}

Thanks so much for this - the level of information and photographs you've provided is tremendous, and the skills you have displayed are something else.
I'm just starting to build a TID tug from an MMM kit as an absolute novice, and the story of your build will be invaluable.
Well done!

Those fitting are really nice. Did you make them yourself?

He makes everything himself!   I'll bet he even made the little hex head screws  :-)
