Hi George,

Most impressive. A quick question....Does the steel plate not cause vibration and more noise? I just wondered why steel and not wood?

Hi Barry,
I normally would not use this as a base but I will need the extra weight. A far as viberation and noise, these motors are very quiet and low RPM and with rubber motor mount seem to work at the test run.

Thanks for that George. A good idea to use it as extra ballast. :-))

You mention coaling scuttles, so why not make her a oil fired vessel most of the ones I believe in MoD use were oil burners, save a bit of extra research and work.

Hi ,
In regards to the oil fired vessel and the coaling scuttles. The first 90 were Cole fired with fixed funnels and the rest were oil fired with hinged funnels.  I like detail and idea of coaling scuttles on the deck. I also like the idea of the hinged funnel and mast and the open bridge. Here are a few more pix of a couple of my models. The ENVOY is in the military version and lightly weathered. The flat iron gunboat is a David Medcalf hull. The sailor in the head is reading a model boating magazine. The TID is is off the bench for a week while I finished the 40 ft. torpedo boat that can been seen in other pix of TID. Should be finished this weekend and then back to TID.

Hi Guys,

This is my scratch built TID TUG, note the home built OXY ACETALINE Set, made from 2x different sized felt tip pens, some copper wire a short length of chain from a cheap necklace and 2x overall buttons for the wheels.

Len.

PS In the background are 3x barges made from Styrene ( A Ricky Webb Design ) The Digger is a guesswork one that I knocked up working on that the Operator would be 3" tall, again made from Styrene, electric wire for hydrolic hoses and dressmaking pins for the control levers.

Lovely model. Have you come up with a real answer to "what does TID mean"? I still await a definitive answer....but none of you TID builders seem to know! So muchfor "research".

Please, I did not mean that as an insult.....I would really and finally like to put a long standing question to rest.

Hi Brian,
There seams to be no defined answer to this question. I am quoting from Issue #54 of ARCHIVE The Quarterly Journal for British Industrial and Transport History."Of the seemingly infinite number of the published guesses for what TID represents, TUG FOR INVASION DUTIES  seems to be one of the most likely." Also the article and the photos on the TID is a must for a fan of the tug.
No insult taken and hope this will help.
