Hi,

Well I have just spent the last 2 hours at work going through this thread from the start and it is fantastic to say the least, keep up the good work and stop painting all the lovely brass work.

Thanks

Beautiful brass work again & again ggeorge  :-)) it is a treasure ....in OZ we have a locally manufacture product called "Metal Magic" ......it does not contain the methylated spirit base that 'Brasso' type products have....& hence I can polish boiler bands without damaging the paintwork ....the package suggests that it also protects.....it does not leave any residue on the brass surface but clearly retards oxidation time over the other 'spirit' based metal polishes  O0........Derek

ggeorege....the web site is

www.rubbedin.com.au

Hope this helps.....it is an excellent product O0 ....Derek

BTW...

1) do you use a small butane gas flame for the majority of your brass soldering work?
2) do you use a 5% ferric chloride solution as your soldering flux....or the zinc chloride 400g/L?

It is true ....the things our dads taught us.........when soldering....cleanleness is next to godleness....... :-))  O0

Another tip- for really precise solder work where you can't afford for solder to run where it shouldn't- pass the work piece over a candle yellow flame, the solder will not adhere to the carbon- just rub away where you want the solder to run.
