Any Recommendations ?? - CAD (Computer Aided Design)
« on: July 12, 2010, 12:53:13 pm »

Has anyone out there got any experience/recommendations for a PC based, sraight forward CAD system?
Probably only 2D required.
Reasonably priced would be ideal!   :-))
I currently use the old fashioned pencil and drawing board method, which is fine but requires constant redrawing when altering scale.
I look forward to any/all helpful responses, including pitfalls to steer clear of!!!   :-)
I hope I have posted this in the most appropriate place :-) If not, I'm sure it will be moved!  :police:

i use autocad and rhino ( rhino can be used 2d but it really is better suited to 3d applications....)

i guess it depends what you want to use it for ?

you can pick up autocad lite pretty cheap.  You cant go wrong and the lite version has more than enough features for personal use.

Thanks guys for your input.  :-))
I'm looking at each of your suggestions carefully.
Has anybody had any experience of IMSI Turbocad?

Pageup is free and relatively simple.

If you have not used CAD before there is a lot of learning to do.

There are lots of free tutorials for Pageup that are relevant to any CAD programme, for those who are new to CAD

Thank you all for your input.  :-)) :-)) :-))
I followed all your suggestions and after trying some of the freebies I have settled on Turbo CAD v.15 from Imsi.  O0
It was under £15 for a fully working 2D/3D registered copy.
It's pretty simple to navigate/operate.  8)
3 component designed/drawn and parts made in 48hours. I'm happy!!    :}

Hi, I have only just joined this forum. Going through the entries I am amazed by the help and information available.

Thinking that it will be years before I could add anything of interest, I was surprised to find that I can!!

SketchUp from goggle is FREE and very, very easy to use. There are simple to follow examples that get you on the way very quickly.

Hope that this helps.
Regards
