can anyone tell me the name of the language? police and pilots use. instead of E,T,C they say Echo, Tango, Charlie. thanks in advance as i know someone out there will have the answer.   craig

The phonetic Alphabet is also used by the "Forces"  O0 as well as the 24 hour clock.  :-))

Also radio operators ie sailors as well for proper VHF radio comms

not only unique to boaters .........I just used it to re-register my CA [computer associates] software when talking to a gentleman in India......

thats what started me trying to remember what the technical term was for what turned out to be the phonetic alphabet. an indian gent telemarketer/researcher rang and the only way we could understand each other was to spell it out with phonetics. my version though not the proper one. ie. H= hamburger  S= steak (well it was tea time)

a romeo steak for RARE
a michael steak for MEDIUM
a wiskey steak for WELLDONE

Might be easier to order a [quebec/papa/wiskey/charlie] = a quarter pounder W cheese  O0 ;D %) ...Derek

One of my Call Signs when I was serving "Er Majesty was Roger Dog, it was in the times of the new alphabet but we still used the old one, sounded better than Romeo Delta, well I think so.....
