Well I have the ply and have made a start with the ribs :-) these are made out of 3mm marine ply

I am waiting for the builder who has been renting our garage to move on so I can set up, I have been working in the lounge at the moment, not ideal.

Ok the weather has been rubbish here in Wellington,  have a look at my weather site www.brooklynweather.co.nz
Not that I need an excuse to work on the boat, I took the opportunity, I made up and fitted the outer keels for the outer prop shafts

Hi mate, looking good so far. How big is this beasty going to be once it's finished? As for the weather in Windy Wellington, well landing there in a plane is an experience in itself! The wife and i will be driving through there in January.

Hi Jonny
the beasty is 1200 mm long, as for flying in to Wellington in a decent southerly, its a experience not to be missed  ;)

Hi All

Well it's been a bit quiet on the PT front, just a bit of sanding at nights. But I had some bit turn up from J R Haynes yesterday that I have made up, pretty good stuff too.

Hi Andrewb,
Your second photo showing the 20mm Oerlikon appears to be mounted incorrectly.
The barrel mounting should be the other way around.
Not being smart just trying to help.I have a 80ft and 77 ft Elco at 1/24 scale.
I have used the J/Haynres armament on my 80ft Elco.

Hi there ~Andrew B ~ nice looking build and I like the way you have assembled the frames on the building board.

I have a couple of queries - I wonder why you havent added intermediate stringers on the bottom and the side?   Because, adding these helps you get the correct flare at the bow on the bottom and on the sides.

Also, why have you planked one side first completely?  Because normally, planking one side at a time like this you may distort the hull sometimes.

So put a straight edge along your keel just to check.

As the glue dries out which is securing the planks, it tends to shrink and the plank tends to move and this can cause some distortion.

Lastly, are you going to double diagonal plank your hull?

Looking really good.

G'Day Andrew,

A great looking hull and good planking job to boot. I also concur with Bluebird re intermediate stringers - I built a 6 foot Brave class hull and later wished I added more stringers as this would have aided in obtaining the correct profile a lot, lot easier.  O0

But having said that, it's great to see another plank on frame hull on this side of the globe and yes, planking is fun :-))

Hi Martin and Bluebird

Thanks for that guys

The stringers a bit embarrassing, as I have the wood to put them in, but I got a wee bit ahead of myself and forgot  :embarrassed:

Anyway, I'm quite please with the out come so far, I was i bit worried when Bluebird mentioned the hull distorting, but I seem to have got away with it :-))
in saying that I have used Wurth Cyano (I get it cheep as I am a rep for them) on the first layer, the second layer will be a good quality wood glue. Any suggestions would be great..

Thanks for looking

A bit difficult to get our KIWI cousins to get their story straight.....as my take on this is ........the planking has been VERY well done  :-))

Woking with real wood is such a rewarding process...... :} ....Derek
