Andrew
My mate no longer has his Elco but his recollection is that he used 35mm 3 blade props.
Hope this helps.

Andrew......when we review the snaps from Reply #66 on: November 30, 2010, 07:28:18 AM » as below....the alignment between the three prop shafts & rudders appears OK.......

So what happened?....did the center prop shaft axis move? prior to epoxy bonding?

1. we as model builders are our own best & our own worst critics
2. 95% of people viewing you vessel would not notice the glitch
3. 5% may question the alignment
4. you could prepare a document available to all... to state that the second counter rotation propellor direction requires a 5.232' degree rudder offest  to compensate for the second propellor..... :o %) {-)
5. you could realign the center prop shaft & rudder  <:( :-X

Derek  ;)
Come on Derek, the problem is that the centre rudder isn't quite vertical. Not a lot out, just a bit.

Aren't PT's fun? I especially like the diagonal planking, so much more enjoyable than fitting longitudinal planking on a traditional hull.

Where I live (Michigan), we have humidity swings which create havoc on wood models. My PT was at first only resin coated over the basswood (lime) planking... before it ever went in the water, the seams had opened up! Resin alone won't stop the wood from working, it has no tensile strength. I ended up stripping the paint after most of the rest of the model was built, in order to apply a light layer of glass. Quite annoying, but I won't build another planked hull without glass on the outside.

You don't mention the plank thickness... ages ago, I built a 1:20 80 footer with 2 layers of 1/16" (1.5mm) planking... oh, it was heavy! And these models don't like heavy. My 2nd model was done with 2 layers of 1/32" (0.75mm) bass... with 3x 600 motors and 2x battery packs, it needed zero ballast. You can see it at:

Hi Andrew

I am currently building a 1/20th Elco based on John Drains laser cut keel and rib kit. His shapes make a very accurate hull. You will love Shapeways weapons, I used some on my Higgins Hellcat and was very pleased with the detail and quality. They also have 1/20th PT crew personnel in various poses available now, by a different designer.

Your boat looks great, and performs well in your video.

Hi ya
Thanks for your comments. Mine is based on Johns hull 1, he made the drawings available for free for a while. It has gone together pretty well.
