Aeronaut Torben
« on: July 18, 2010, 10:28:32 pm »

Hi all mayhemers,  this is my first build on mayhem and it`s the Aeronaut Torben.
The boat is 73cm long and 23cm wide, it`s powered by a Robbe 755/40 12v motor and a 12v 7,2Ah sla battery.
This is how far i have come in a couple of days work.

Got some more work done on Torben today.
The kit is very easy too put together and is a perfect beginner boat.
I cut out some of the parts for the wheelhouse, it was a very easy job but the plastic in this kit is badly warped so it needs a bit of work too get it straight.
Any bright ideas on how to fasten the superstructure too the boat as the tow hook is on the superstructure and i`m going too use it for towing.

Hello Haarek,
How did you get on with this build? Did you finish it?

I am just about to start to build a Torben myself and I don't see many of them about.  <:(

As a simple solution to hold the superstructure down for towing try this.

if you source a long nut and bolt that will reach from a convenient point on a flat part of the superstructure, to just below deck level. Affix a suitable piece of square section wood dowel across under the deck, with the nut secured to the under side of the cross bar, then you can drop the bolt down through the superstructure and merely tighten with your fingers, this will be sufficient to hold it all down and prevent it from pulling off under a tow. Dotn try ightening the bolt down with a spanner, just incase you need to access inside the hull quickly in an emergency.
You can always hide the head of the bolt with a small cabinet or locker, so it does not stand out too much.

or if you cant find a bolt long enough, then buy a piece of threaded rod and cut a length to suit your requirements.

best of luck with the build, its looking great.

Hello Haarek  The Torben is a lovely little boat I built one for my Grandson some 12 years ago and he has now grown out of model boat unfortunayely so I gave it a makeover and altered her a little. but as you see from the picture she tows very well , the superstructure by the way is a good fit to the coaming, and I do not fix it in any way, BUT I always use a stop rope so that the pull on the hook is from astern all the time, looking forward to seeing pictures of her on the water, all the best  george.
