Sheathing a Balsa Hull with Glass cloth.
« on: July 19, 2010, 01:38:59 pm »

First, not tried this material - YET, but was reading on a toy Aero forum (Yea, I know, Heresy but the Aero type do look at cutting edge stuff quicker) that another "Wetting out" material to use when coating a toy balsa hull with glass CLOTH (Woven 3/4 Oz stuff) is "Minex Polycrylic"

  http://www.klasskote.co.uk/accessories.htm

NO affiliations with either the company OR the UK supplier but it seems that this WATER based (Easy to wash yer brushes out) liquid bears looking at. Seems you can also use "Silkspan" or a lightweight Silk material as a base so you don't have to chase F/G suppliers.

Similar application method to "Doping" and tissue covering, wet surface and "brush through", leave to dry, LIGHT sanding/feathering of edges and apply another coat of liquid. Sucks in an seals the wood.

  Regards  Ian.

Just a guess but that might be the same as Johnson`s  "Kleer".   The glass cloth wets-out nicely , dries to crisp sandable edges.
