Model Railways were certainly my first hobby.
I was given my first layout before I was born!  %)
Trix Twin Princess and a shunter that my father bought in 1941 when he knew I was on the way.  %%
All I have left is the Princess converted to 2 rail and rather battered.  <:(

I don't "do" model railway... but I just finished this for a friend and his club layout.
Started out with 50mm pvc pipe, cardboard, and some styrene stick and sheet stock.
Three bins were modified to make two, and the "elevators" were Walther kits extended for height.
Not entirely accurate, but time and cost was a consideration. 45 hours of work here.

We'll see if they want the rest of the building  and the dock side conveyors modeled.

 :-)

I am hoping to get a picture of it on the layout once it's installed.
I'll post a one of the photos I had to work with.

Very nice. It certainly captures the feel and massive size of the typical grain elevator.

And what, pray tell, does a WWII German Munitions factory building look like?  :o
If I had a good idea of the layout and scope of such a facility I suppose I could build one.

Here are some models I did a while ago.
The class 89 as it was in the 90s. I used a hornby class 58 chassis and two HST bodies.

And the BR class 90, 90036. This is my favourite loco in the class, Iv'e driven it many times and is very reliable.

I'm building a model of the eastern half of the Southwold Railway in my back garden (Southwold to Blythburgh) - 16mm to the foot scale using live steam locomotives. You can see how I'm getting on at http://www.rslr.org.uk

Surprisingly I've managed to buy a fishing boat on eBay that is approximately 16mm scale  :-))

for those of you that build model railways in either 'OO' or 'N' guage there is an amazing website selling 'superquick' style buildings that you can print at home
this is great if you have a decent printer you can ( givern enough ink and card ) build a whole citys using only a few templates.
http://www.scalescenes.com/

well worth a look. there is even a pretty good waterline cargo ships :)
some are even free to download

Ill second that
The guy who runs the company is a top bloke as well, always happy to answer emails and help out where needed.

Having built several of them for my N and my sons OO layout I can say they are a breeze to fit together and in my opinion if you take your time they look far superior to superquick and metcalf offerings

Also if like me you have fingers of butter and fists of ham, the ability to reprint parts you "xxxxx" up is a godsend

one of the best model railways in my opinion is here http://www.pendonmuseum.com/ it's on a huge scale with and fantastic layouts it's very close to Didcot Railway museum http://www.didcotrailwaycentre.org.uk/ here you will not get as close to live steam as this place it's another must do if your into trains.
These two places can be visited in one day as there close to each other.

I am in process of building portage and marine railway boats for boat carrier trains. I have canal and aqueduct for small craft. Everything is scaled 1:13.7 on 32mm handlayed track, representing 18" gauge. Scale is 7/8"

I've almost completed a OO layour for one of my music students. He tells my what he wants, and then I try to figure out how best to do it!

Here are some pix of the state of play earlier in the year - I'll add more photos when we've finished.

Hi Guys

I can't say I am a railway enthusiast - I work there. However if any of you guys ever decide you want to build a tamper pm me and I'll get you some photos internal and external (I can't do so in January though).

Ahh the old Plasser & theurer. I usually see them crawling past lit up like a Christmas tree. You get good vibes when it's doing that dynamic stabilising thing.

I'll keep in mind thanks.
