Of course, with electrical appliances your into a whole new set of regulations on "Portable Appliance Testing". Still needs someone qualified to test a machine regularly and secondhand ones can't legally be sold without a PAT test label. (Look on lamps, hairdryers, etc. in your local charity shop). True, this person doesn't need to be an electrician, as the certificate is easily gained. I got mine after watching a 40 minnute DVD and answering a multi-choice online questionnaire. Perhaps this is why the makers are being uppity, they're covering their backs!

The next thing you know is that you must have an electrian to wire up my 6v model boats .

Do what you Moderated want. It's your life, your house.  I just wired my new place, and am putting the water in AND doing the gas. I've done it so often before when I was exactly the same person with exactly the same experience, information and knowledge. SO WHAT's THE DAMNED DIFFERENCE NOW??

PMK, don't worry about it! The thread has turned out be both amusing and educational. And I very much doubt if there are any profanities in the English language (and a few others) that I haven't used myself either singly or strung together.
As far as the blessed switch is concerned my primary posting was about being ripped off for a simple job. I'm sure I'll be able to find am alternative supplier. BY.
