My newly aquired Robbe fishing boat :-)
« on: June 03, 2010, 03:38:14 pm »

I won this model the other week on eBay at a bargain price  :} The guy who made it has done a super job on the weathering, still, me being me, I wanted to continue the weathering and make it my own. I applied rust to the weights (not sure of the correct technical term?), added rust to the chains, winch area and winch drums, exhaust unit, dust around window bases, seaguls, and other dry brushed metalizer on the storage rails etc.
Hope you like what you see..... ok2

Weathering is a hard job from what i've seen of it. I'm thinking of wethering my tug i'm currently building.

You however seem to have done a super job on it and it looks pretty smart so well done!

Thanks all for the replies  :-) Only picked her up last weekend from West Yorkshire, so haven't had the time to sail her as yet. Just been busy getting her all dirtied up and adding my touch. Hope to add some more finishing details, some scale figures would look nice and then all I need to do is fit the electrics and she's ready for launch.

Ok, here's a guessing game....

In the words of Rolph Harris "Can you guess what it is yet"???

Clue...1

It's made of five different bit's of plasti-card.

Clue...2

I had to melt it into the shape (almost setting it alight in the process lol)

Any ideas anyone????

PS. Bet before the nights out some smart rear ended person gets it  ;D

Perhaps some sort of tarpaulin or canvas cover.  I actually use foil tape for such things as you don't have to heat it to get it into shape and it is really thin so looks quite scale at 1/35th.

It could be something completely different though!!

No..not yet, she's ageing as we speak with all that shelf dust on her!

I've been busy decorating our new house so haven't felt like much of my own modelling until now. A new shed is being delivered this coming week so once that's all set up then I'll get back into things and finish her off  :}

Fantastic job on the weathering, I especialy like the rust on the doors & chain. I can't do this to save my life  :((  Is there a specialy material that you're useing ? Maybe you could do a "how to do weathering" guide. I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd be most interested in a lesson or two.  :} :}
Keep up the great work & I'll look forward to seeing some on the water shots. Cheers Dan.

Why thanks Dan.  I can't take all the credit here, though the bits you like I did repaint (weather). I have in fact already posted a step by step guide on weathering rust, you can find this guide under 'painting' and click on 'Voyagers Guide To Realistic Rust'. I use a variety of effects from stippling to dry-brushing mostly, and with the help of Mig Pigments and Oil Washes. I am low on modelling funds at the moment but hope to have at least two of my projects on the water in a few months time.
