Hi  Tim, You seem to have a lot in the pipeline at the moment.  I know you Antipodeans live in a
big country but you all must have big sheds/workshops.  1/96 scale is the biggest I can manage
to store/build.  Now Sirmar has ceased trading  there is a dearth of 1/96 scale modern warship
hullls. Any plans in this scale??

Hi Geoff,

I have been asked just lately by someone over here to build a 1/96 scale Missouri. But i hav'nt given it much thought as I'am a member of TF72
and we are a large club in Oz. I love 72nd scale.

All these scales available makes modeling a bit complicated I reckon. But I guess we all have limitations of one sort or another, whether it be
shed size or car size or of course how fat the wallet is. I opened my wallet the other day and moths flew out. {-)

I will give 96 scale serious thought though.

What by the way is modern to you, 1900 - present or post ww2 - present.

Check out the Task Force 72 web site.

Thanks DickyD, now I will have someone to play with too! :-))

How does one find APS models on the internet? They don't appear to have a web-site? :((

Tim, Post WWII is the period I am interested in making.  I'm probably a few months from
the end of my present build so I will have to scratch build the hull.  It will be a type 41 Cat
class frigate - I know there isn't much interest in them as there were only 4 built plus the
4 type 61 on the same hull.
Thanks for the reply.

Dosn't Ron Dean (Deans Marine ) do 1/96 warship hulls?

Yes they do several hulls or kits but mostly of WWII vintage - quite a good range but very little
post war - I don't suppose there was a call for it when Sirmar was filling that niche.
Perhaps they may change their range of kits now they are not it competition with Paul.

I was wondering if there was any crossover with APS.
Doesnt APS make a 1/72 HMS Hood at 12 feet long.
1/72 is just starting to become a bit more popular over here, but can see postage prices (as now calculated by volumetric weight) being prohibitive.

Bob

G'day Bob,

I've been busy for a while, but now i'm back online.

About APS's HMS HOOD. Allan Pew has given me 'permission' to build HOOD hull's and fittings and now i have had one ordered from me in the last month.

I now have hull orders for 72nd scale SCHARNHORST,VANGUARD,IOWA,BARHAM and HOOD.

Busy days ahead.

Regards,

Tim.

Thanks Bob,

At the moment I have got 3 Aust.ffg hulls to complete in 144 scale and an Aust LHD hull in 144 scale, for Defence Models and Grafics.

3 Dido's and a New Orleans in 72 scale by Christmas. The BB's I'll start soon.

I am looking forward to starting fittings next year as well. Especially the German turrets.

There were items that I wanted to get from Sirmar but I will have to look elsewhere now.

Scale Shipyard in Long Beach California produces hulls, fittings and semi kits for about 140 ships. They have been in business for over 30 years. Unfortunately they do not make any Royal Navy ships of any era. Hopefully he will complete the KGV class in the next year.

I got a list some time ago from Lee Upshaw of the hulls that he makes. Scale Shipyard also makes hundreds of fittings as well as gun turrets and mounts. Most of the hulls come with arrangement plans.

Contact Lee at scaleshipyard.com for more information.

Hello Duane,

Excuse me if i'm slow at the moment, i'm not sure what your getting at. Do you believe i should focus more on Royal navy ships as there is a lot available for American and German ships. I actually already intend to remedy the Royal Navy situation in 72 scale, starting with the Dido and town class cruisers.

But i'm guessing you need 96 scale fittings, etc.

My goal is to build a comprehensive range of semi kits of ww2 vintage carriers to frigates across all nations involved in the conflict.

Regards,

Tim

I am just helping in letting others know that Scale Shipyard also does semi-kits as well.
