What am I doing wrong??
« on: August 24, 2010, 10:23:16 am »

The following is a PM I sent to another mayhemmer as I try to get uploading of pics sorted, before I start a build thread.
Whatever I do all my pics end up as thumbnails on preview, and apparently thumbnails when received.
What can I do to get them to a decent viewable size, when posted?

OK This is another attempt at sizing - by making a copy and resizing to 640 x 480 then sending without further resizing.

Still appears small

This one sent as 2200 x 1750 (No resizing called for)

Every time ends up as 160 x120 bytes

Next one starts as 2200 x1750 and I selected 640 x 480 on upload

STILL 160 x 120

check this thread it may help if your using the forums build in photo uploader

http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=23.0

but if your using Photo bucket (which is proably best) and just pasting a link then theres a good way i recently found out to post large photos onto the forum.

upload your photos to photobucket. and save them in a desired folder/album

now heres the trick..

go to each photo and open them in a new tab..

then for each photo you will see the 'resize' or 'zoom' button click it let the photo resize then right click and COPY IMAGE URL

then paste using the photo link in the forum (Ctrl +V)  [ img ]Photo ULR Here[ /img ]

bingo sorted large photos in the forum

And yes thats me with rolled up jeans taking my daughter paddling in the sea at dawlish during the summer of 2009

I was talking to John the other day, he said that he was intending to put a build thread onto Mayhem, but he did,nt want the pics to be thumbnail size, he would rather them be a bigger pic from the start. I am hopeless on that side of things so I could,nt help at all. Got to say he is doing a really nice job on the boat he is working on.

Not Sure but is it because you are using the 3rd party picture hosting site ? so it defaults your picture to that size.

If you are copying the link to post your picture I think you might be copying the one for a "thumbnail" size.
I use photobucket and there are 2 different links one for thumbnail size and one for full size.

Thanks guys for all your help :-))
It looks from replies, I need to download "photobucket" and go from there.
OK I'll do this in the next few days and then hopefully then start a build thread' O0 :-))

Photobucket is an image hosting site, there are other ones but it works pretty well.
You sign up for a free account, then send your pictures to them and then copy the links to post your pictures.
Good luck on your build, looking forward to the pictures.
