Hello All
Can anyone help me, I am trying to get a idea what a late 1830s 20 ton schooner may have looked like. My great great great great grandfather Jock McGregor built and sailed a trading vessel called Surprise here in New Zealand.It is described as been built rounded with a wide hold, similar to Dutch Doggers. If anyone can point me in the right direction it would be great..

Not sure if this helps, but I'm currently building a model of a 2-masted merchant schooner closely based on "Enterprize" of 1830, built at Hobart, Tasmania. No idea if a New Zealand ship of the same date would be similar (and Enterprize is a bit larger, at around 37 tons displacement).

Here are a couple of photos of the plans. They're from an old issue of "Model Shipwright", not sure if they're still available.
