« on: August 24, 2010, 02:48:39 pm »

Im thinking of getting one of these but I have a question

Ive got some 4" boat speakers and was wondering if I could use them as they are rather nice bose ones, problem is they are 4 ohm... is there a way to increase this to 8 ohm?

Have you thought of contacting FLJ and asking his advice. He doesn't bite when he hears wallets being opened.

Yes I had, I thought it best to ask on here as if hes on here that means hes not busy and would have time to reply lol.  I know how irritating it is to be in the middle of something and the phone rings.

Theres no rush on the answer, the boat its going in is only half built :)

Riggers
Nuts.

E2V
2 x 4 Ohm speakers in series = 8 Ohms. And thanks for your consideration - this has not  been a good afternoon.................  >:-o

2 of 4Ω does give 8Ω.  If it sounds strange in use, reverse one of the speakers connections, as you will have discovered phasing.
If using just 1, it may well be that the amp is quite happy at the voltage you are using with 4Ω, but a careful read of the instructions is needed to make sure that the magic smoke will stay inside the amplifier chip.
Alternatives are to insert a 4Ω resistor of the same wattage as the amp can deliver, but this cuts the volume available, or to seek out and use a 2:1 transformer, 8Ω at one side, 4Ω at the other, but speaker matching transformers are something I haven't seen for a great many years.

Cheers that should give the V8 a nice boom lol, they were nice and bassy in the full sze boat they were in... may have to fit a bigger motor to deal with the extra weight tho
