what would be the correct below waterline hull colour for an s100 i've seen red with black stripe (not to keen) or all black which i much prefer

Hi Grant,
According to Connelly & Krakow writing in "Schnellboot in Action" (Squadron/Signal Publications) later boats, e.g., S100 series, had a brownish-red anti-fouling "Schiffsbodenfarbe Rot 5" (approx. FS20152) or a similar colour.  Boot topping was black.  The colour of hull sides, decks and superstructure varied of course, depending on operating area and flotille.  You would find the above book very useful.

The nearest that i could find to the suggested colour was Hycote Ford cardinal red a little darker than red oxide with a brownish tinge, looks quite good and as Mike B has already said with a black boot topping. All oversprayed with matt varnish.

Boot topping as i am aware was  very Dark grey never black on all German craft

My research shows red (FS20152) as the nearest color and this is what i  am using on my 6 meter model  some did have a dark gray near black boot topping depending on the unit and the year of operation tassie48
