MY SECOND FLOWER CLASS BUILD.
« on: August 25, 2010, 07:07:27 pm »

Having got bored stiff waiting for the hull for my next build to arrive from Oz I have decided to do another Revell Flower Class Corvette while I am waiting.

I got this from Barry at Westbournes who informed me he had bought up the remaining kits from the wholesaler which he is selling for £49.99 each.

I ordered it yesterday and it arrived today.

I have made a start by gluing the hull together and the withdrawal symptoms have nearly gone.

Will now have something to do tomorrow.

Hi Richard,
Well done my friend, taking on yet another task! No doubt it will be up to your usual high standard, for us lesser mortals to wonder at. Glad you're coming out of the doldrums, the old saying comes to mind, 'you can't keep a good man down'.

Best wishes, Danny

Do I detect a note of sarcasm Danny ?

Had to do something, my backside was starting to hurt where I was standing around scratching it all day.

Excellent! Looking forward to how you will go about this DickyD. It will good to see how an experienced modeller tackles this common 'first time' conversion and your build log will be a treasure for those of us doing this for the first time. So, please take lots of pictures and let us follow you along on every part of her build.

Are you planning on doing anything fancy like smoke or noise?

Nothing fancy, just an improvement on the last one ie brass stanchions and things that get broken at the lake.

The first one.

Not having a go at you Martin, just needed something to do and a warship kit for about £150.00 all in seemed ideal.

No sign of parts 1 and 2 yet I'm afraid.

Haven't done much today, only fabricated and fitted the rudder.

Unfortunately Deans Marines postman with my motor and prop shaft etc is not such a fast worker as Cornwall Model Boats postman with my adhesive and speed controller, so I am still stuck for the propshaft and motor etc.

Maybe tomorrow.

Still waiting for my running gear. Why do people send out recorded stuff 2nd class post ? No telling when I will get it.

I used a Stanley knife blade to scrape off the pattern of planking where there shouldn't be any.

As I said the rudder is fitted.

I have prepared the hull to receive the decks. The foredeck is fitted.

I intend to join the main deck to the forecastle deck so that I have plenty of access.

I have fixed coamings around the rear deck and cut an access hatch so i can get at tiller if necessary. This hatch is under the depth charges so I have had to make the racks so I can get the size of the hatch right

I have started to make up the main parts of the superstructure so that when I eventually get and install the running gear, I will be able to use the superstructure to help hold the decks together.

There are plenty of these kits around if you have a look and I don't think they are in any way in short supply:

Haven't done much today.
Made the main gun and platform and soldered a brass handrail around it and the bottom walkway of the bridge.
