Bofors 40mm (post-war powered mount) photos
« on: August 25, 2010, 07:51:00 pm »

Here are some photos of a Bofors 40mm single gun mount, of the post-war power-operated type, taken at Chatham Dockyard museum last week. This particular gun is from the C class destroyer HMS Cavalier, seen in the background (not sure why it has been dismounted)

Thought these might be of use to anyone building a model of a boat/ship with this gun (such as a Brave/Perkasa MTB), as reference photos + drawings of this particular gun mount seem to be quite hard to find, especially of the armoured gunner's "cockpit" interior and controls. Unfortunately I forgot to take any photos of the other Bofors still fitted on Cavalier (which has practice rounds in the ammo hopper and storage rack)

Hi There
Many thanks for the photos they are very good.
I just wish that I had seen them 30 years ago when I started building my 1:48 NNS Dorina.   I am in the process of adding more details so I hope I can add to the Bofors.

Pat,  Will you require any more photos as I will be going to explosion musuem next week and they
apparently have 4 x 40 mm bofors (don't know whether they are all on display - but Edward seems to
have done my job for me.

Hey Geoff,

I will be building 2 x 40mm Bofors for my BB @1:16 scale - that makes an overall length of 8 inches. Any photos you are able to get and pass on would be most appreciated - its all the the detail %)

Many thanks for these photo's too, I am just starting to renovate a 1:24th scale perkasa, which has a "very wooden" 40mm bofors on the bow and these picvs will help me tremendously to replace it with a more accurate replica scratchbuilt from plasticard and rod. [ sorry - cant afford to buy a replacement resin one!].

Hi I noted that the end of the spent shell chute has been removed and placed on top of the recoil pistons it should be under them. photo nine shows the bolt locations.
