Need a bracket made
« on: August 27, 2010, 02:59:07 pm »

Not sure where to post this as its not really boat related but someone on here should be able to knock it up in short order.

As some of you may or may not know I have a Tamiya King Hauler Tractor truck.

Ive almost finished building the Chassis and am in the process of fitting the Multi function unit.  According to tamiyas instructions, the MFU should be servo taped to the vibration unit.  This seems a little Heath Robinson to and a little worrying to have a £200.00 peice of electronic wizardry sitting atop something that Vibrates! I would prefer to have an aluminium mount made by someone who can do a neat job.
I dont have suitable tools to do such a task and was hoping that in return for a selection of beer tokens

I can supply sketches and measurements.  Its not a difficult job, will be a flat sheet of 2-3mm alumininium than could then be bent to shape

Can anyone help?

What an odd request! Surely you have a pair of pliers? A hacksaw? A couple of files? At least access to some sort of drill?
Coming from a country with more rally drivers than you can shake a stick at, asking someone in the UK to do it for you sounds more like lack of commitment than just ignorance. Post a pic of what you need, and I'm sure you'll be flooded with advice. BY.

The thing has cost me a small fortune so far, I could make the bracket myself but It wouldn't look good enough as I dont have the right tools for that kind of job

Bracket will be much stronger if you are able to make those 'feet' all in one piece.

I know I'm going to be slated for this, but I was really expecting to see something complicated. That thing to me looks as if you could make it (assuming 2mm alloy) with a pair of scissors and a small file. If you really want to be a "model maker" then the first step to take is to learn and work out how to do things for yourself without going the "easy route" and asking someone else to do it for you. With or without tools, have you actually tried to make it yourself? Sorry to be so negative, but the basic tenet of model making is problem solving, and until that notion sinks in then you'll be forever asking others for help. Sorry, but sometimes it's cruel to be kind. BY.

Yes Brian I know I should have done it myself, but as I said I wanted a good job done and I just dont think I could have made it neat enough.

A friend of mine is opening a modelshop close to here and he is considering it for a display model so it needs to be right.

I'm pleased that you appear to have taken what I said in good heart, and I appreciate your dilemma. But even though you are having the bracket made for you, have you tried making one yourself? Even for a bit of practice. From such little things does skill and experience come about. I should have said this earlier, but even though this is a model boat forum, do you fancy putting up a few pics of your vehicle.....just to show us here a different slant on model making? Regards.
