Billings Zwarte Zee - which prop?!
« on: August 28, 2010, 04:52:44 am »

Okay, probably a silly question, but...

Given that there are two in the kit, one brass and one plastic, both threaded for the prop shaft, which goes on deck and which on the shaft?
Currently I have the brass prop on the shaft, but it has a much simpler profile than the plastic prop. Umm, I mean the shape of the blade on the prop, if that wasn't clear.

im not sure if the plastic prop's supposed to sit on the deck given thats its threaded so able to work, it could possible be a spare prop, maybe for a lower motor, is the plastic 2 or 3 bladed? im assuming the brass prop is 3 bladed? to me sounds like it could just be a spare prop designed for a smaller motor is there a picture on the box or in the instructions that show a prop on the deck? if there is a prop on the deck it will be the Plastic one thats on there, Use the brass for the running gear  :-))

AlisterL the picture on Billings catalogue shows the brass 3 bladed prop on the deck in front of the bridge.

Ho-hum... I've had another look at the pictures and I reckon that looking at the picture of the stern the prop that's on it is the brass one, and the prop on the deck is the plastic one after being painted.

My plastic prop:

Go for the brass one for propulsion. In my expereince brass props give better 'braking' when reverse is selected to slow the boat. Of course you could always experiment with both and take your pick.
