rules of engagement

Please remind me of the "rules of engagement" on 40 meg FM TX/Rx and their Xtls. What "mix'n'match is possible with Futaba and Hitec equipment? I have occasions when the strict matching of TX to Rx is not possible.
Also, how do Futaba and Hitec identify their respective Xtls?

They don't - as far as I know. When I had both, I found the crystals would work in either TX, but if you checked with a scanner, there were instances when they covered more than one 'slot'. Sorry - can't remember any details and I am now 2.4 Ghz.

Im using Futabe 40meg AM TX with a Hitec 40 AM RX with no known issues as yet. The xtals are from a chinese ebay seller advertised as Futaba/Hitec

BJ specified FM, which is what I had. As far as I know there is no problem with AM. Also Its a Tx problem as far as I remember, you can mix and match the receivers.

No, but one reason I swapped to Giant Cod is that Rx's are only £10, compared to Spektrum & Futaba 2.4 Ghz receivers at over £35.

With Giant Cod's 2.4GHz RX's costing less than a set of Futaba 40MHz crystals, the swing to 2.4 for new builds must be gathering pace.

Following Barrie's comments, I ordered a Tx and an extra Rx last Saturday night. The parcel arrived Tuesday and was 2 hours in front of their Tracker notification email saying that they had mailed it out at 1530 Monday!!!! Including postage it came to just over £40 for the lot. Shame they did not put a tub of clotted cream in with the consignment
