Futaba - S.Bus System
« on: August 29, 2010, 07:11:18 pm »

Anyone seen this?

http://2.4gigahertz.com/sbus/index.html

Imagine using one cable and one receiver to control up to 16 servos. Imagine being able to plug in battery packs anywhere you want. Imagine a system that simplifies setup, yet gives you more programming power at the same time.

You can stop imagining, because the S.Bus system can do it all – and more. And if you can imagine a system that can do so much, you can also guess which company has already made it a reality: Futaba.

Like digital servos, the GY520 Gyro and FASST™ radio systems, the S.Bus system is more than just a better product. It's a revolution in R/C science that redefines what radios can offer today – while hinting at what tomorrow's systems will become.

Yes, this has been on sale here in Japan for about 6 months. I can't speak for the whole country, but the local flying clubs have been noticably moving away from JR to Futaba, claiming better reliability and innovation. The serial bus system promises a quantum change in radio control systems, with intelligent transmitters, servos, and receivers. At first it is benefiting the helicopter and aeroplane users, but these advances will trickle down to the car and boat users.

Have to point out that this sort of research and development is expensive, so don't look for any innovations from the cheap Chinese knock-off makers. Advances will be made by the reputable, established manufacturers like Futaba who charge more for their products, but invest the profits in research and development. Chinese R&D is, I'm afraid, an oxymoron.
