Type15 Fast A/S Frigate HMS Troubridge [1957]
« on: September 01, 2010, 09:25:50 pm »

Good Evening guys ..........

Can you help me please with any information on this ship which I have decided to make

I am obtaining a hull from Dear old Ron ......but need a mountain of information and detail to convert from a Destroyer to a Frigate of this Type

This Ship was one of the many that my future wife's Dad served  on so it has a meaning to build it and not just another project to put on the "Stocks"

Any information you may have would be very welcome indeed no matter how small or any pictures of the equipment fitted to her after the conversion from Destroyer to Frigate

Kind regards Ivor  :-))

Ivor, on conversion to type 15 she was fitted with a twin 40mm forward of the bridge and a twin 4inch
mounting aft-  I believe she was the only T class who had a type 41 (leopard class) bridge fitted. Two
mortar mk 10 (limbo) fitted in echelon aft - can probably get more info on my return from holiday
if no one else can help

I can't find a Troubridge plan in the John Lambert index -  there is one of Rapid (type 15) but with different bridge etc
and one of Terpsichore (type 16 limited conversion)

If you are seeking a photo of the ship try:
R.N. Frigates 1945 - 1983 by Leo Marriott (published by Ian Allan 1983) ISBN 0 7110 1322 5
Photo on page 35 (plate 24) shows her from starboard bow.
There is also a write up on the conversions to type 15 & 16.

Hope this helps you.

I found a lot of useful info on a site called Hybrid Frigates. http://middle-watch.com/hybrid_frigates.htm . I was asked to refurbish an old model made by a Sea Cadet many years ago out of bits and pieces. I found this site relatively useful. But I thought Deans make a kit of this type. If it is still being made I am sure he will sell you the plans.
Good luck I fancy doing the Rocket, I came about because my old man commisioned her according to my mum.

I have received a set of drawings from John Lambert , stating its dimensions as339'6"  X35'9" x 11 6" / 14 6"

The Hull I am getting from Mr Dean is said to be 44" long .......whats the formula for converting the above ships sizes to 1/96 scale please  {:-{

Ivor 1/96 scale is 1/8" to the foot or 3.175mm if you are younger than me.

Wasn't HMS Troutbridge the ship in the old BBC radio service, The Navy Lark.

I hope this might prove useful.  I found these in Jane's Fighting Ships 1964.  The rest of the information can now be found on wikipedia if you search for Type 15 frigates.

I do have a larger copy of this, but it doesn't show much more detail.

Hi Ivor,

I have plans for Type 15 and Type 16 conversions and Emergency Class Destroyers prior to any conversion.

Unfortunately, they are 1:72 scale, but a simple fraction can bring down the scale to the required 1:96.

The quality of the plans is pretty elementary and basic (A4 sheets) but they deal with all permutations of the Emergency Class Destroyers and their subsequent conversions.

If nothing else, the plans will answer some of the questions you have as well. %) :-))

You are welcome to a set of copies.

Remember, there's nothing a British boy cannot do ..................  ok2

I remember her well as a child at Chatham Navy days, she used to fire her 40mm bofors to demostrated the noise etc, and fire a dummy mortar into 1 basin, they also used to have a O/P class sub dive in the same basin and fire a dummy torpedo. Navey days are not the same nowadays.

Ivor have you any photos of the build and some more close ups - she looks good on the water and it is nice to see something that doesn't get modelled too often
