Model Engineer Exhibition 2010
« on: September 12, 2010, 10:26:29 pm »

As many of you will know, this year's MEX will be held at Sandown Park Racecourse, Esher on 10/11/12 December.

It was generally agreed that the 2009 show was a major improvement on earlier ones and you can see the report on the Model Boat Website http://www.modelboats.co.uk/

This year the organisers are hoping for an increased marine entry to supplement the excellent club stands we saw last year. I appreciate that some people do not wish to enter their boats into the competition classes but there is also the option of entering the Loan Class which allows the public and fellow modellers to appreciate your work in a non competitive context - and of course you still get free entry to the show!

Obviously the more boats on display, the better the show will be, so do please consider coming along. A good kit class entry would be particularly welcome as this is the main route into the hobby for most people and we want to encourage visiting members of the public to have a go themselves.

Full details of the show and how to enter can be found here:  http://www.modelengineershow.co.uk/index.html

Went to this today - very disappointed.  To be fair, there were quite a few nice boats on some club stands, but only two traders selling nautical stuff and the boat 'pool' was unused all day.  Great if you're into model engineering though! I can only hope that 'The London Model Engineer Exhibition' in January is better than this.

I was there yesterday with my offshore boat to put on show for the day. I did suggest that i ran it in the pool, But it was pointed out it had taken some time to fill it up and they didn't want it emptying in double quick time, or the windows cleaning. I did see 2 boats on the pool. One doing a wobble around and another boat from Phil's marine. It was nice to see the boat traders there and I had a chance to talk with most of them. I got a chance to look at tools & machines which can be usefull to model boaters rarely seen at other model boat shows.
I got there just before 10am and left around 4.30 having had a really good time. :-))

Hi,

Went there on Friday, had a chat with Steamboat Phil re: flash steamers. Had a chat with Roy Darlington and his Sterling Engined powered launch. Had a chat with Martin Ransom and his immaculate steam launches on the "Full Steam Ahead" stand.

Plenty of excellent model engineering - puts my efforts to absolute shame.

I said to my mate, that if the software in my computer controlled boat "Vital Byte" was written in brass, it too would be immaculate and win prizes! - I'm only envious!
