Swing Rig RG65
« on: September 23, 2010, 10:22:49 AM »

I want to scratch build a Racing Sparrow designed RG65 this winter
as it is a nice size for easy transport.
The web instructions mention a swing rig version which is even
easier to transport.
Does anyone know a UK supplier or maker of swing rigs or will
this have to be scratch built as well?
Thanks in anticipation

Ned,

Don't know of any UK suppliers of RG65 rigs - but the usual suspects sailsetc, housemartin and nylet may welll have suitable materials, and maybe sails.

Are you familiar with
http://www.rcsailing.net/forum1/forumdisplay.php?76-General-Discussion-(RG65)
There is bit of discussion of UK RG65s

BTW, Chris Jackson is one of the class experts; i believe he is editor of one of the comics, and may be able to help

PJ Sails is a good source of various things RG65 (hulls, keelbulbs, fittings, etc) but I don't think there is anybody doing swing rig kits in the U.K.

There is a detailed RG65 swing rig plan knocking about on the web - both in German and and translated version, although I can't find it at the moment - it may be on the R65 resource CD http://www.rcsailing.net/forum1/showthread.php?5610-US-RG65-Info-CD-Now-Online (bit too big to download at work) or you you could join the US yahoo group as it's in their archive.

So far all the boats at Kingsbury have standard rigs - These are still fairly easy to transport even when set up, I can get two rigged boats into the back seat of a VW Lupo.

Cheers

on http://groups.yahoo.com/group/RG65SailboatsUS/files/ there's a pdf file called Bauanleitung_SwingRigg.pdf which is a translation from the original German and a very thorough guide to making a swing rig using readily available materials.

As mentiomed PJ Sails sell all the parts to build swing rigs as also Sailsetc although a little dearer but an excellent posal service.

Hi Andrewh, Chris Jackson retired a couple of years ago from editing the Marine Modeling Int. Magazine.
I am sure you could reach him through the magazine or perhaps through the Woodspring club at Portishead.
