What way should the props rotate on a twin screw tug...
Is it... In the way at the top ... or... In the way at the bottom...

You have opened a can of worms with this one, most of the tug photos I see where you can see the props they turn in at the top, when going ahead. If the props are in kort nozzles does it matter!

Check out the thread 'Handing Props' in Research and Information. I vote for turning outwards when going ahead because that's what my father's real life tug Meeching did. However, opinions differ!  ;D

Thats why I said norrie was opening a can of worms, I don't think there is a hard and fast rule, we used to get taught about going astern and prop rotation helping the swing etc. It seems the more modern approach is in board turning assists the handling.

Inboard for manouverability.
Outboard for speed.
Inboard increases propwash under counter and out towards rudder(s)
