I never ever thought the Soviet Empire would collapse, but the news that an ex-pupil from my old school is now leader of the Queen's opposition leaves me gob-smacked!
The particular establishment has been described as a failed school (well after I had left, I might add) and it is amazing that both brothers actually got to Oxford University.
The school was well known in the sixties for being a hotbed of protest with the police on one occasion "removing" a girl "ban-the-bomb" protester from her "A"-level exam in order to escort her in front of the magistrates.
Being a prefect was akin to being sent on an SAS survival course!
One frightening thought - this ex-pupil from my old school is now only one general election from having his finger on the nuclear button!#
