Tricky masking job
« on: January 31, 2007, 03:25:37 pm »

I need to mask off my scuppers when I spray the outside of my hull.

The problem is the deck line is a bit higher than the scupper and there is a wooden strip along the line between deck and hull and between scuppers (see fig)

Suggestions on the best way to mask please.

tigertiger, also wallpaper-glue will do the same job. Make it a thick mould, well stired, not churned and place it wit a soft brush. After that you may wash it away with water.
(any wallpaper-glue available in China?)

Thanks Jorg

good tip. Wall paper paste might be a problem. People don't paper much here, but I will check out B&Q.
Yes we have B&Q, but only stocks stuff for local market.

I was considering stuffing plasticine into the scuppers.

Tiger why not use a candle ?  just take an ordinary plain ole candle and rub it all over where you do not want paint to go,  when the paint is DRY  then simply wash the wax of with hot water...  I've used this method for yrs on just about everything and anything, it has always worked for me and all the people that I have told

Thanks Big H, I can use this elsewhere.

My problem is I am spraying the outside of the hull and I don't want paint to come in the scuppers and onto my deck and below the rails on the inside.
