Took MAGGIE for a sail today
« on: October 17, 2010, 05:16:38 pm »

Took my modified MAGGIE M out for a sail today. She is modelled more or less as she is today although everytime I see a recent picture I see something new to add to the model. When not fishing she does 'Guard work' in the North sea for oil companies. She is hired to guard new pipelines, cables etc that are not yet on the charts.

To see a picture of her taken in September follow this link http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=1172669

Here is the work Maggie M was doing earlier this month she was guarding the AMADEUS which was involved in Oceanographic/Research work off the Dutch coast

Very nice indeed  :-)) :-))

It is not for me to say as I not a model boat builder, but when visiting vessels in the Isle Of Mann (many of which are guard vessels doing guard duties for pipelines etc,) if they are a fishing vessel then they are not allowed to carry any fishing gear, nets, boxes or trawl doors, maybe you will need to remove these doors ?

But a superbe model and you make me very envious, I was thinking of the Maggie M as my first model to build but think it would be too complicated for a first attempt ?

Jim.

Thanks guys and yes boater you are correct about no fishing gear I just haven't had the heart to remove the trawl doors. Although saying that I have several pics of Maggie with her Guard banners on and the trawl doors are still fitted.

They do remove the guard banner when they are fishing , BUT , you can leave any nets on the net drums the boats only have to remove the doors when they go on an oil job.

What you could do if you want to put the fishing gear aboard is to make a couple of small cloth covers you can tie over the banner

Thats good as I have nets on the drums on the model, think I best remove the trawl doors, they are not like the trawl doors the real Maggie has anyway!
