Building Sir Walter Raleigh

After having finished my puffer the Wee Dram and joining the Stockholm Skalabåtklubb I started to plan what to build next. As I wanted something a little bit faster I ended up with a Model Slipways kit of a Trent lifeboat. The kit has arrived and I've decided to build it as Forward Birmingham 14-12. At the same time The Puffer has been on some exhibitions including running in a small pond during the shows. I noticed then that the weight of the boat made it rather difficult to move it around. I then thought that it would be nice to have a boat which was smaller and not so heavy. The Trent lifeboat didn't really end up in that category so looking around I decided to build another boat first. The choice become the compact kit from Deans Marine and the passenger tender Sir Walter Raleigh. Build by the Great Western Railway which was my favorite when it comes to model railways.

The kit has now arrived and here are some pictures of whats in the box

Finally more or less finished mine yesterday. (do you ever really 'finish' a model boat?) Turned out better than I had expected although it has clearly been simplified and performs very well indeed thanks to the advice of our friend from ACTion.

Review will appear in the Speciial issue of Model Boats due out next month.

Yes, read the review first. I wouldn't describe it as a beginners model as it needs a bit of work to get the best out of it and the instructions are somewhat uneven(!). If I had been making it other than for the review I would probably have taken the opportunity to enhance it a bit more with extra detail.

But yes, it does look very pretty and performed very well using the electronics and motor setup recommended by ACTion.

so did I and finally bought one now I have less hair than I had before nothing but problems with this kit/
