Bloody snow!
« on: October 25, 2010, 03:26:04 pm »

Had the first inch of snow here at the weekend
A little slip and an awkward landing resulted in 2 4 inch pins in my right hand for the next 6 weeks

broke the bone in my little finger just before the knuckle.
I knew I was in trouble when the Dr said "Hmmm that's an interesting fracture"

I guess building anything is out for the next few weeks :(

Ouch!

You have my full sympathy. I went to the doctors a week or so ago about a very painful wrist, turns out I've had
De 'Quervain's tenosynovitis' for the last 6 months. It has got so bad recently, I couldn't move my hand yesterday.
However I found some very good advice on YouTube of all places!

The cause of de Quervain's disease is not known. In medical terms, it remains idiopathic.

Some claim that this diagnosis should be included among overuse injuries and that repetitive movements of the thumb are a contributing factor, but there are no scientific data that support a link between hand use and de Quervain's. A common speculative cause or association today is typing on handheld devices, which has led to the condition being dubbed "Blackberry Thumb" O0.

Speaking of Steve Martin films, when I was immobile I felt like his character in 'Dirty Rotten Scoundrels' when he was pretending to be the US war hero in the wheelchair! It drove me mad not being able to walk for seven weeks, very frustrating, Dave.. :-)

No drinking either due to the cocktail of painkillers and antibiotics :(

My Wife fell a couple of years ago and had 3 pins in her wrist, We still have them, they seem to be stainless steel, about 2 mm thick and the hook at one end ( So the Doctor has something to fix on when they were pulled out!!) looks as though it was bent by a Plumber!! pardon my ignorance, but what is SWMBO ? Is a Pally Duker the same as Dolly Push or Cackhanded?
