24 hour clocks
« on: October 26, 2010, 08:54:56 am »

Why do you never see a clock which has a 24 hour face?

That is one which the hour hand does one rev. a day, not the normal 2. 6am would be where 3 is now, 12 noon would be at the bottom and 6pm (18.00hrs) where 9 is now.

I know they are available, but you never see them where they might be useful..airports, trading floors in stockexchanges etc. I don't see the need for one in a garden. %)

RAN vessels [DDGs & FFG's also had/have a 24 hour analogue round faced clocks in their fire control operations center....not sure about the Collins class submarines but is is a safe assumption  :-)) ...Derek

There used to be - and probably still is - a 24-hr clock at the Royal Observatory, Greenwich, set in the boundary wall near the entrance gate and a few feet from the Meridien.

That is interesting Barry...so could we conclude that clock is "a few feet divided by the circumference of the earth"....either  {-) advanced or behind that old GREENWICH [GMT]?....

As it's a slave, the Master may well be on the Meridean. Search on 'Shepherd gate Clock' for more.

There was an old clock on TV yesterday that the hour hand did a rev every four hours, instead of 12. .....   for  ships' watches on we were told.

All sorts of different clocks are "out there"! This is an 8" dia. standard issue MoD clock, now adorning my living room. Can cause a bit of confusion to a first time viewer. BY.
