2.4 in Submarines

Im not sure if anyone has covered this topic before  but is it OK to put a 2.4 system in a Submarine please?

I'm not a submariner, but I understand that 2.4Ghz radiation will not go through water. So use it if your sub is a surface runner only...

Yup a while ago I did some tests with a test rig submerged in a water butt and found that I lost control with the TX 4 feet from the RX and the test rig under 12 inches of water.

2.4Ghz is the highest absorption fequency of water. So any signal just heats the water!

In practice a body of water such as a lake will shorten range for above water use, but not to an extent boat modellers will notice, however best to avoid flying over water.

Hello, if you can get yourself a 27meg set, I had control down to 6ft standing directly above the sub, the depth deminished the further away the boat was.   Nemesis

The lower the frequency, the better the water penetration. Full size subs use Very Low Frequency (about 10kz) to penetrate about 100 ft of water at thousand-mile ranges. Trouble is you get very low data rates at these frequencies, and the aerials have to be tens of miles long...

40 meg is more than adequate for sub use. also beware of sailing in salt water. signal wont penetrate .

Is there any difference between receivers..(range wise)..ie the cheap Cirrus against a pucka Futaba.

Is it necessary to have the aerial outside the hull

Dual conversion receivers give better reception.
