My great uncle Steve Chugg was owner 1924 to 1942. Registered Barnstaple. Moored at Vellator, Braunton. Originally built 1921 in Lysekil, Sweden. Original name Jules Claes.

Used for coal trade between Lydney and Isles of Scilly.

NRT was 41 tons, so I am estimating  she was approx 90 feet by 15 feet beam, but no hard and fast data. Diesel engine, shallow draught.

A 1/24 model is planned.

Any info would be much appreciated in terms of dimensions, plans, anything.

Have a couple of photos and that is all.

Realise this is very much a long shot, but going on past responses on this helpful site, well worth asking.

Can't help with Dido-C plans and pics but I can recommend a good book for detail on sailing vessels of this era.

'Schooner Sunset' The last British sailing coasters by Douglas Bennet ISBN 1 86176 1767

Chapters include Hulls & builders, Anchors, Deck fittings, Variations in rig, Masts spars & standing rigging, Sails & running rigging, Engines and life aboard.

There are numerous line drawing including many to scale of fittings, boats etc. Plus hull lines and sail plans.



Book shows Dido-C was still listed in 1945 as Auxiliary wood ketch
Barnstaple, built 1921, Lysckil, Sweden.
74.7 x 20.9 x 7.4ft.
68 tons gross, 41 tons net.
