Southampton MBC ???
« on: February 09, 2007, 11:54:30 am »

Hi I have seen a poster in a local shop advertising Southampton model boat club .
I think it said they sail at Foxhills near Lyndhurst but I cant see any sign of a lake on my OS map?
Anyone have any info on the club or the lake?
Many thanks J

The Southampton MBC used to run at the lake just down from Andrews Mare car park in the New Forest (I was once their Vice-Chairman!) The Eastleigh Club has two venues, the Lakeside at Eastleigh, and a purpose built scale pond at Twyford Waterworks. For any further information regarding Eastleigh, contact Malcolm Wilson, on 02392 250604.

Our web site can be found under the heading of Clubs on Mayhems Home Page.

hi Shearwater 5
yes southampton mpbc does relay exist i think its the South's most difficult to join club i was a ember until a few years ago when they stooped racing ic boats,  my friend is still a member. as it still allows ic boats
the lake is at foxhills but it is a fair walk from the public car park, club members having a key & car pass  to gain access to forrest.
if you are coming via m27 go past end of motorway up a slight hill yo will see a petrol station & Little chef on you left (if they are still there)  take the next left  then about 200 yards a right this will take you to the public car park  from there walk down the path to the 2 lake on your right.
the club runs 1week in every month
but if its a nice day normally some one is there may even be me if i can get a new van to take my wheelchair
                        good luck steve

If you dont get sailing at Settley pond, your always welcome on the lake in Whiteley.

Just to clarify that ive sorted out the use of the lake in Whiteley.

I shall be there most sundays from around 9.30 until i get hungry(12-1pm)
come off the M27 at Whiteley and take a right on the roundabout follow the road all the way round until you see the lake on the left. Ample parking and the lake is salt free.

cheers for the info :)

n why not about pompey lol? football? i hate football lol

settley pond sure dos look stunning, just outa intrest it says you meet at 10am but dosnt say till what time? and things like if you get a free day in the week and are a member can you pop along and use the lake still?

im liking this lake cos it looks fantastic and the fact that you can relax there, for me it would mean a nice day out kinda thing, im guessin most people take more than one boat lol  ;D

cheers once again, dan

edit: cheers about the Whiteley lake too ill see what happens about the settley pond 1st as i wouldnt be going every single weekend, just as many as i could, i live right by canoe lake here in southsea, its just salt water :( and i really hate runing my tito neri and other boats on it, settley just looks like a nice alround day out :)

Hi Dan
The scale section meet at 9.00 and go home when they've had enough on Thursdays and Sundays.
Sail section meet on Tuesdays Wednesdays and Fridays.
You can use the pond at any other time
If you are a member you are also covered by the clubs insurance,

Richard

PS Think it goes deeper than football. ;)
